Google has opened its second call centre in India at Hyderabad where the company will provide assistance to Google AdWords customers in four new languages — Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. So far, Google had only one call centre in the country at Delhi where trained experts provided assistance to Google AdWords customers in Hindi and English. Google India also plans to open more call centres where assistance will be provided in four additional languages — Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi and Oriya.

By 2011, Google India also plans to rollout around 100 workshops and seminars across 25 cities in the country to educate SMEs (small and medium enterprises) about the benefits of having an online presence and generate business. The company has also started a free of cost programme, called Google Engage, which will offer training and support to digital advertising and marketing agencies, webmasters, web developers and businesses that help other businesses succeed online, so that their clients benefit from Google AdWords and other Google products.

“India has about 35 million small and medium enterprises out of which only one million have an online presence. We at Google want to help all the SMEs in the country and get them benefited by using our AdWords programme,” Sridhar Seshadri, country head, online sales and operations, Google India, has said.

According to Sridhar Seshadri, Google AdWords programme globally serves more than 1 million SMEs and about 2/3rd of AdWords’ overall revenue is contributed by SMEs. “In India, we have seen around 100 per cent growth in the number of SMEs using AdWords in a year. We get around 1,000 calls every day in our Delhi call centre. In the next 12 months, from the present 1,000 SMEs, we want to reach 2,500 advertisers every day,” added Seshadri.
