Google India has said that the company’s ‘India
Get Your Business Online’ program which offers free websites, domain and
hosting services to small medium businesses in India, has till now covered 1.5
lakh small and medium businesses (SMBs).

In March 2012, Google India said that it
had reached 50,000 SMEs. Google started the initiative in November 2011. Google’s
target is to get 500,000 SMEs online in about three years.

“We also provide .in domain names to them.
We help them in getting online presence,’’ Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of
Google India, said. The company’s target was to reach 5 lakh SMBs under the
initiative. He said the remaining 3.5 lakh would be covered in the next two
years.

The initiative aims to break down the
barriers that stop small businesses from getting online – by offering a quick,
easy and free tool to set up and host a website. 15 minutes, is what Google has
promised, will take for the website from sitting down to being found online.
