Google entering the Ad Serving Space

Publishers rejoice! It’s reported that Google now plans to announce a ad-serving solution. Basically, allowing Web publishers to manage their online ad sales and serve up ads. And of course like Urchin, this too will be free of cost.

The new service called “Ad Manager” is under testing with a few publishers. It’s interesting because companies like DoubleClick, RealMedia and Zedo have traditionally charged for these services, but of course they cater to the higher volume publishers unlike Google Ad Manager which would largely target Small & Medium Publishers. The Ad Manager of course would integrate well with the Google AdSense program.

Google says it won’t require Ad Manager users to carry the ads from Google’s AdSense system, and they can also choose to fill the spots with ads from other online ad networks in cases where they generate more money for the publisher. The Ad Manager service will handle formats including graphical display, video and text ads.

Editor’s Note- We have tried OpenAds which is free (now OpenX and more previously, PHPAds), but for the most part, still a hosted solution is of great interest specially if it’s engineered by Google.
