Google has amended its maps to show the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India. The correction came in response to a notice issued by minister of state for communications and information technology Sachin Pilot to Google for showing a map of India as part of Pakistan.

Google Insights for Search, a tool which shows search volume patterns across specific regions, had earlier shown Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of the neighbouring country. The notice said that wrongful depiction of Indian map could attract action under Sections 69A and 79 of the IT Act.

“Any wrongful depiction of Indian map and its boundaries is liable for action under the India Information Technology Act,” Sachin Pilot said. According to Pilot, the IT Department has been asked to survey all such companies showing inaccurate maps.
