Fropper.com, a social networking site owned by People Interactive (Shaadi.com), has launched Fropper Music, an online music service that will enable “more than 3.5 million users of Fropper.com to listen to their favourite songs”.

Fropper Music offers songs in five languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi and Telugu. Its different channels include International Hits, Classic Bollywood and Sufi & Ghazals. Fropper Music also allows users to create their own customized music channel which will play songs on the basis of a user’s taste across genres.

According to Fropper.com, the music on the site is “completely legal” as the company has secured the required licenses from both PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd) and IPRS (Indian Performing Right Society) to stream music from the website.

Fropper Music claims to have a song base of more than 15,000 songs sourced through labels like Venus, Saregama and Tips. Regional content for the site has been sourced through top labels like Aditya Music, Krunal Music and Sagarika Audio.

Fropper.com is also exploring options of sourcing more content through various labels and music licensing bodies. Fropper has plans of expanding its song base to over 1,00,000 songs in the next three months and is also set to launch many new channels in addition to those that are currently available.

Navin Mittal, business head, Fropper.com, has said, “Networking around music is a fairly new concept in India and there is no quality music networking site yet. Internationally, internet radio is gaining more listeners with every passing day and has already left terrestrial radio far behind in terms of growth. On Fropper Music people will be able to enjoy music on the basis of genre, ratings, social slices, popularity, moods and also build custom channels. Intelligence will be built into the system to enable discovery and interaction.”
