Flipkart hires senior executives for commerce, taxation departments

      two senior executives for its commerce and taxation departments.

      head of sales finance, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, is joining as the chief

    • Pramod Jain, who
      headed the taxation department at Indus Towers Ltd is joining as Flipkart’s
      vice-president and head of taxation. Jain has previously worked with the tax
      teams of Dell India and
      Xerox India.
      Jain will play a key role in engaging with government authorities, Flipkart
      said in a statement.

      experience in handling diverse roles and sharp business acumen will be a great
      benefit to the company,” said Sanjay Baweja, chief financial officer at
      Flipkart. “Pramod’s unconventional approach to solving problems will
      definitely play a key role in setting high standards in the industry.”

    • The company has been
      adding senior executives from global units of giants such as Google, Microsoft
      and Amazon to propel growth, prompting smaller rival Snapdeal to follow suit.

    • However, over the
      past four months, at least five senior executives have left the company. These
      include Mekin Maheshwari, head of human resources, Ravi Vora, chief executive
      officer of Flipkart’s strategic brands group; chief technology officer Amod
      Malviya; and engineering head Sameer Nigam. Additionally, chief executives of
      two start-ups, AdIQuity Technologies and Appiterate, which were acqui-hired by
      Flipkart, have also quit.

    • However, Flipkart has
      strengthened its top management. The company recruited Google executives Punit
      Soni as product head and Peeyush Ranjan as engineering head. They were hired
      even though the senior tech roles were already occupied by Sagar Malviya and
      Nigam. In the finance function, Flipkart hired Rajnish Baweja and Sanjay Baweja
      as finance controller and chief financial officer, respectively, in the second
      half of last year.

    • The firm also
      appointed Amazon’s Dan Rawson as head of customer logistics and supply chain
      ecosystems, while Google’s Ravi Byakod is director of engineering—accounting,
      and Anand Lakshminarayanan from Microsoft as head of product management for
      digital goods and services.

    • The company is
      working towards making its complex structure simpler ahead of a possible
      initial public offer. Flipkart recently bought back its logistics business from
      WS Retail Services Pvt Ltd, the largest seller on its platform, and a company
      with which it has close links, the
      Mint
      had said in a report.
