Flickr, Digg, Flock, Facebook, Farecast honoured with Webby Awards 2008

Flock, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, Wired, Huffington Post, New York Times, BBC News, Yahoo Sports, ESPN, Farecast and Kayak have been included in the list of 12th Annual Webby Awards 2008.

Flock, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, Wired, Huffington Post, New York Times, BBC News, Yahoo Sports, ESPN, Farecast and Kayak have been included in the list of 12th Annual Webby Awards 2008.

Wired, a digital culture website, was awarded the Webby Award in the Best Copy/Writing category while the People’s Voice award in the same category went to HowStuffWorks. The Webby for Best Practices went to Flickr while the People’s Voice went to Digg, a social bookmarking site.

The Webby and People’s Voice award for the Best Culture/Personal blog went to PostSecret, a blog-based independent project that allows people to unveil a secret online anonymously. The award for the political blog went to Huffington Post.

The Webby for the News category went to New York Times while the People’s Voice in the same category was given to BBC News. Flock emerged the winner for the Best Social Networking site while the People’s Voice award in the same category went to Facebook.

In the Sports category, while Yahoo Sports won the Webby, ESPN bagged the People’s Voice. Farecast and Kayak won the Webby and the People’s Voice respectively in the Travel category.

The Webby Awards, established in 1996, is the leading international award honouring excellence on the internet. The Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

The Webby Awards presents two honours in every category — The Webby Award and The People’s Voice Award — in each of its four entry types: Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile.
