US-based social networking site Facebook has unveiled the new design of its users’ profile pages which will now move away from a single flat page to a tabbed design. The move is aimed at making the profile page cleaner and simpler, giving users more control over their profile pages, and emphasizing recent and relevant information first.

According to Mark Slee, product manager for the profile changes at Facebook, the core tabs on the new designed profile page would be Feed, Info and Photos. There will also be a Custom Applications tab. Navigation on the profile page will also change with links to core features like Profile, Friends, Inbox, Search and Applications.

Another new feature being added to the top of the Feed tab is a Publisher Box. This feature will allow users to add content directly to their profile, instead of going to different pages. Wall posts can be made on a profile through the Publisher Box as well. [Source: Inside Facebook]

The new design is a work in progress as of now and Facebook users can opt in to activate the new design when it goes live in the coming weeks. See the pictures of the new design here.
