Ecommerce platform Shopify enters Indian market with SingTel

Canada based ecommerce platform, Shopify has entered the Indian market in partnership with Asian communication group, SingTel. Shopify aims to help SMEs in the country to have an online presence. The platform can be used to create and power online stores and is currently offering four monthly plans (starter plan – Rs 750, basic – Rs 1550, professional – Rs 3150, unlimited – Rs 9560).The payment has to be made with a credit card and a shop can be set-up instantly states the company.

The platform provides features such as hosting, templates, a web dashboard to manage products and orders, a secure shopping cart, SEO tools, 24 hours customer service support, mobile optimized stores, and an iOS app which offers merchants the convenience of managing their business while on-the-go.It is also offering free Advertising credits on Facebook and Google. 

For payment solutions, Shopify has tied-up with PayPal, DirecPay and PayU in India.  PayU accepts Visa/ Mastercard Credit Card and debit cards from more than 50 banks.

“20% of our global transactions are coming from mobile, so we are focusing on this medium. I believe that mobile strategies will frive the growth of ecommerce in India. We will be offering coupons and points for Facebook and Google advertising to merchants. I believe the kind of user experience we provide gives us an edge over our competitor that is our USP,” he further added.

Loo Cheng Chuan, SingTel Group Digital Life’s Head of LocalL!fe, said “By 2015, 35% of internet users in the Asia Pacific region will make purchases online, and 30% of these transactions will be performed on a mobile device. Shopify is an affordable and fuss-free solution to help entrepreneurs in emerging markets expand their reach in Asia and beyond.” 

Operating in over 100 countries, Shopify claims to power over 50,000 online stores with annual sales exceeding $1.5B USD. Founded in 2006, Shopify has received $22 million in Series A and B funding from Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Felicis Ventures, and Georgian Partners.
