Online auction company eBay has been ordered by a court in Paris to pay 40 million euros ($63 million) in damages to a leading luxury brand, Louis Vuitton (LVMH), for turning a blind eye to the selling of fake merchandise on its site.

eBay has said it would appeal against the court ruling. The company argues that, as an online auction house, it is just a platform for buyers and sellers to meet, and therefore not liable for any counterfeit goods that are sold through it, reports Forbes.
