E-tickets accounted for 86 per cent of the total 18.81 lakh train tickets booked through the Indian Railways’ online ticket booking site, IRCTC.co.in, in January 2008, as compared to 65 per cent a year ago and 14 per cent in Jan 2006.

E-tickets accounted for 86 per cent of the total 18.81 lakh train tickets booked through the Indian Railways’ online ticket booking site, IRCTC.co.in, in January 2008, as compared to 65 per cent a year ago and 14 per cent in Jan 2006.

This share is likely to go up further with Railways planning to allow issuance of wait listed tickets through e-tickets. At present only confirmed tickets can be booked through e-tickets, while wait listed tickets can be booked through i-tickets, reports Hindu Business Line.

IRCTC.co.in offers multiple ticket booking facilities to its users. While, the e-ticket booking facility allows passengers to take a ticket print-out at their own end, under the i-ticket booking facility IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) delivers the printed ticket to the passenger by post.
