Online marketplace Amazonhas decided to amplify the ‘Make in India’ vision by opening up its ‘Global Selling Program’ in India.
According to a Trak.in report, Amazon India informed Indian manufacturers and sellers that they can use Amazon’s ‘Selling on Amazon’ and ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ products as part of their global selling program bundle, and thereby instantly connect with their 270 million+ customers across 180 countries.
Chad Goelzer, Director Global Sales for Amazon, was quoted in the report as saying, “Our Global Selling Program in India is designed to assist Indian manufacturers & businesses to grow their business by leveraging Amazon’s state-of-the-art technology, world class logistics infrastructure and customer service expertise,”
To start with, products from Indian sellers would now be accessible at Amazon US and Amazon UK marketplaces, which will be soon extended to their other 8 market places across the world. As of now, 9 categories would be allowed to be listed, including, apparel, home furnishing (including Indian handicrafts), jewelry, books, collectibles, sporting goods, handbags, shoes and health & beauty products.
According to the report, there are 10 major market places of Amazon globally: United States, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, China, Japan and now India. As Selling on Amazon program is now live in India, local manufacturers and sellers can now list their products in these 9 major markets, and increase their presence globally.
Additionally, buying customers from Amazon reside in 180 countries across the globe. Even if a customer’s country doesn’t have Amazon website (local), they can still order via Amazon global website, and have their products delivered right at their doorstep.
When it comes to delivery, Amazon again provides two options for their global sellers: Either they can fulfill on their own, wherein they will be required to manage the full export process, customer service and return claims. Or, sellers can opt for ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ option, and allow Amazon to manage everything right from picking the product, packing it and shipping it. A unified charge is levied which includes international shipping fee, import fee deposit and producer’s cost.
This marks yet another solid step from Amazon India to increase their market share and dominance, especially in the lucrative B2B segment in India.
Last year, Amazon India, which has already pledged $2 billion investment in India to enhance their presence, launched a dedicated a dedicated B2B marketplace for Indian businessmen. Amazon India even introduced innovative programs like Kirana Stores deliveryand exclusive fashion portal.
