Don’t live other’s dream; Find your passion: Sanjeev Bikhchandani advises the youth

“Don’t live someone else’s dream. Find your
passion and focus on your dream. You will be happy even if you don’t make money,”
said Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Founder and Executive Vice Chairman, Info Edge
(Naukri.com), while addressing the country’s youth at the India Today Mind
Rocks Youth Summit held recently in the National Capital.

Bikhchandani pointed out that it wasn’t a
question of earning money for entrepreneurs, rather it was of finding that
which they love the most. He further said that Dreaming Big and Starting Small
is always a favourable mantra for entrepreneurs. The initial investment in his
company was Rs 12,000 but their plan was to change an entire industry.

“Take action. It’s great to have a
philosophy of life, and wonderful to talk and theorise on what you would like
to do, but it’s only when you take action as a leader that it’s possible to
expect a result,” he further added.

Depicting the story of how he made his
first 100 crore, Sanjeev Bikhchandani said that the story began in 1990, when
he was working for at a multinational as a manager and could envision a safe
future with a stable lifestyle.”If I continued at my job, I would not have
built anything that would have lived past me. I would have become a prisoner of
my visiting cards and EMIs,” he said.

Bikhchandani mentioned that because his
wife continued her MNC job, he could take the risk of starting his own
business. He did so by buying Rs 2,000 worth of second-hand furniture and Rs
10,000 on second-hand computers, a very large sum then.

Until 1996, it was his observation that most
people read business magazines for the appointment ads rather than the
editorial that helped him hit upon an idea. Thus Naukri.com was born, the
success of which allowed Info Edge to go public in 2006.
