DishCo finds angel investors in Mahindra Group chairman, Punj Lloyd founder, others

    Mehra, partner at Goldman, Sachs & Co, have all turned angel investors for
    DishCo, a mobile-only food marketplace application connecting restaurants and
    customers, the

    • DishCo lets restaurants list their signature dishes on its
      portal, where customers can rank their preferences, make table bookings and
      chat with restaurants on issues or feedback.

    • “At present, companies allow consumers to review
      restaurants or their menu without understanding the nuances of hospitality
      industry, which can hurt reputation. We will instead let consumers find and
      rank dishes without any reviews and offer a host of services such as coupons,
      deliveries, wallet time and in-line feedback,” said Jimmy Shaw, founder of
      Food Marshal that owns DishCo.

    • Unlike most food startups that either charge restaurants a
      commission for orders sourced through them or have a fleet to deliver food to
      customers, DishCo offers listing and ranking service without any fee. However, it
      has a fixed subscription fee for restaurants that opt for booking tables,
      offering coupons, and other value-added services.

    • Mahindra, who made his first personal angel investment
      nearly 30 years ago in Kotak Mahindra, said, “I believe it (DishCo) has
      the potential to be a global killer app for the restaurant industry.” In
      the past few years, he has invested in more than half a dozen companies.
      “I have also invested personally in the Epic TV channel and in two more
      media startups I would rather wait to talk about,” he said.

    • DishCo, which has partnered Mobikwik for mobile payment,
      currently operates in Mumbai, Pune, and Goa. It plans to soon expand to Delhi,
      Hyderabad and Bengaluru. At last count, the startup had nearly 8,500
      restaurants listed on its app.
