Online travel company Cleartrip has completed five years of
operations in India on July 4, 2011. According to the blog post by the Hrush Bhatt, founder and
director, product and strategy, Cleartrip, on the day of launch, Cleartrip sold
all of 18 tickets. Now the company claims that it has been doing around 20,000
bookings a day with 13,000 air bookings; 5,000 railway bookings; 1000 hotel
bookings and 1000 bookings coming from the Middle East. The site also gets
300,000 unique visitors a day and 70 per cent of their business comes from
repeat customers.

“The last five years have been an amazing journey–a true
rollercoaster, with dizzying ups, heart-wrenching downs and exhilarating
hairpin bends along every step of the way. We wouldn’t be here today without
the support of our fantastic customers and our amazing people, so we’d like to
say a big “Thank you” to them all today,” Hrush Bhatt said in the
post.

Speaking to AlooTechie about their priorities for the next five years, Noel Swain, executive vice president, supplier relations, Cleartrip said that the company is focussing more on strengthening their offerings through technology and is also looking to establish a strong foot print in other markets.

“The first three and a half years, we had our focus on B2C (business
to consumer) business and we developed our brand through product offerings in
flights and hotels. Last year we ventured into the Middle East market by
launching Cleartrip.ae. Our hotels business in India is also growing quite rapidly
and we have around 4,500 hotels with us. Globally, that number is 72,000,”
added Swain.

Noel Swain further said that the company’s
travel guide initiative Small World is also one of the priorities of the company
and Cleartrip is also working on enlarging their mobile offering base. The company
presently employs 370 people out of which, 100 are in the technology team.
