Lifestyle portal Burrp.com has redesigned its website which now offers city-specific information under new categories such as shopping, movies, active life, local services, health and medical, besides food, nightlife and beauty across eight cities in India.

An important aspect of the redesign is the integration of maps in Burrp. Users can now navigate categories through maps right down to the business they wish to find along with directions from point A to point B. Also, the new Burrp.com homepage gives more prominence to featured reviews. A new section has been created to highlight newly opened places and hot local events.

“We wanted to take a stance of letting our users know everything about the city whenever he or she visits our platform. Moreover, in our new homepage, we have highlighted our editorial elements as we had got feedback from our users who said that we appear mostly as a user generated content site,” Deap Ubhi, CEO, Burrp.com, has told AlooTechie.

According to Deap Ubhi, Burrp.com currently has 75,000 registered users and gets about 5.5 million page views a month. Talking about the company’s future plans, Ubhi said that by February 2010, Burrp intends to launch its services in more cities including Goa, Chandigarh and Jaipur.

By the fourth quarter of 2010, Burrp also plans to introduce a travel section. “It will not be a travel transaction based service, but will help users with information on what new geographies to explore. The section will focus on informing users on what kind of destinations should be visited on weekend breaks and holidays,” Deap Ubhi said.

While talking about the acquisition of Burrp.com by Network 18’s Infomedia18, Deap Ubhi said that the acquisition has worked well for both the entities. “We have got access to the amazing database of local information that Infomedia has and they can now use our technology to make this information reach more people. The Network 18 brand is very aggressive about the internet medium and hence the acquisition is their ploy to bring Infomedia to the internet generation,” Ubhi informed.

Speaking about Burrp.com’s recently launched offline magazine, Deap Ubhi said that the magazine is doing well among the visiting audience. “We have worked a balance between making the magazine both reader and advertiser friendly. Besides, the distribution has also worked well for us and the magazine is very popular among people visiting cities from outside,” added Ubhi.
