Broadband over Power Lines may soon be a reality in Delhi

Delhi Technological University (formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering), which had launched a research project on Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) in July 2007, is expected to submit its final report to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on March 31, 2010.

Delhi Technological University (formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering), which had launched a research project on Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) in July 2007, is expected to submit its final report to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on March 31, 2010.

The BPL research project is funded by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and New Delhi Power Limited (NDPL), with the former contributing 70 per cent while the latter, 25 per cent. The ministry has granted this project as part of its egovernance initiative in rural areas.

Vishal Verma, principal investigator, Delhi Technological University, has said, “Alipur, a village on the GT Karnal Road, (which had one of the worst possible electricity infrastructures) underwent a pilot project which tested ok.” [Source: IndiaEduNews]
