BBC.com, the news website managed by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) commercial arm BBC Worldwide and BBC Global News, has launched a section called The Asia Business Index, which is designed for audiences interested in Asian business stories. According to BBC, the section will deliver round the clock Asia-focused business news coverage and is expected to offer a new route for advertisers seeking to reach BBC.com’s 54 million global monthly visitors and 8.3 million visitors specifically in Asia Pacific.
Besides text stories, Asia Business Index will also feature a range of bespoke video packages and graphics, created exclusively for the web. BBC.com has also recruited a team of journalists based across Asia and the UK to deliver the content on Asia Business Index. Editor Ben Richardson and his team will be based in Singapore and will use the BBC network of journalists across Asia to provide localised knowledge from experts on the ground.
Jeremy Hillman, business and economics editor, BBC, will oversee all content on BBC.com’s Asia Business Index. “There’s no question that the biggest and most important story in the world of business is the rapid growth of Asian economies. As an international news organisation it is vital that we can call upon the best local knowledge for our audiences around the world. We will be adding depth to our existing content and shining a light on some of the more unusual and untold stories, away from the spread sheets and stock market floors,” Hillman has said.
Commenting on this initiative, Chris Davies, commercial director, BBC.com, said, “A proper grasp of global economic issues has become essential for everyone in recent years, not just those who work in finance. At Asia Business Index we are aiming to deliver business news from across Asia that explains local and universal trends.”
