Amazon launches Fulfilment Web Service for online merchants

E-commerce giant Amazon has launched Fulfilment Web Service (FWS) that would allow merchants to tap in to Amazon’s network of fulfilment centres and its expertise in logistics to simplify the distribution of goods sold through their storefronts.

With Amazon FWS, merchants can store their own products to Amazon’s fulfilment centres and then, using a web service interface, fulfil orders for the products. The new service is built on the company’s existing Fulfilment By Amazon service which enabled online merchants to outsource their shipping to Amazon’s fulfilment centres.

Up until now, the service still required a lot of manual steps on the parts of companies or entrepreneurs using it—they had to pre-label each box before sending it to Amazon and manage their inventory manually through software.

Now, with the new Amazon Fulfilment Web Service, an entrepreneur’s computers can talk directly to Amazon’s computers. Requesting orders to be shipped, tracking orders, and even printing branded labels at Amazon can now be done automatically, reports TechCrunch.
