Alibaba.com witnesses 280% more demand for second-hand products

According to a study by business-to-business ecommerce portal Alibaba.com, searches for second-hand products by Indian B2B buyers on the site were 280 per cent higher in November 2009 than a year ago. The study further states that cars, laptops, bikes, mobile phones, machines, containers, tractors and generators were the most popular types of used products searched on the website.

“The B2B purchasing behaviour in India is similar to elsewhere in the world. There was an average monthly growth of 12 per cent in global searches for second-hand products on our platform from November 2008 to November 2009, compared with 14 per cent in India,” Sabrina Peng, vice president, Alibaba.com, has said.
