Aegis Media, $20-billion global communications group, has acquired a strategic stake in Mumbai-based search marketing and contextual advertising firm, Communicate 2. The partnership will enable Aegis Media to include search into the communication solutions from its media planning arm Carat in India and launch Isobar as the digital marketing solution for the Indian market.

“This affiliation will enable Communicate 2 to gain access to the Aegis network, global tools, and partner with Isobar’s search marketing capabilities, the largest global search and digital network,” Vivek Bhargava, founder and CEO, Communicate 2, has said. “We are looking forward to integrating with Isobar and Carat, the most renowned communication brands in the world.”

Patrick Stahle, CEO, Aegis Media, has said, “We are dedicated to continuing our investment in India and this is an important step in demonstrating how focussed we are on our positioning as a consumer-centric company which is digitally ahead. Communicate 2 has an outstanding track record and will form a strong, integrated solution for our clients.”

The global internet advertising market currently stands at $15 billion and is poised to grow rapidly. In turn, the Indian online advertising market is expected to grow from Rs 480 crore in 2008 and touch Rs 1,100 crore by 2012 growing at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 32 per cent.

Aegis Media is part of UK-based Aegis Group which employs 15,000 people across 70 nations with $20 billion in advertising spend handled by its agencies. Aegis launched its digital marketing network Isobar in May 2003. Isobar currently has 3,150 people and claims to manage online billings in excess of $1.5 billion.

Founded in 1997, Communicate2 currently has a team of more than 150 people focused on search. Communicate 2’s clients include ICICI Bank, MSN, Reliance Money, Kingfisher, ApnaLoan and Standard Chartered.
