‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ features in iTunes Top 10 Charts

The music of Yash Raj Films’ latest release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, starring Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, has been featured in the list of top 10 album sales for iTunes, one of the world’s most popular online music store.

According to Hungama, which owns the digital rights to ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and is the exclusive distributor of Indian content to iTunes, this is the first time that a Bollywood film’s music album has got featured in the album download charts of iTunes.

The album was released on iTunes on December 13, 2008 and has featured in the Top 10 list within a month of its release. “Within the first 15 days, there were more than 40,000 downloads registered for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi on iTunes,” Siddhartha Roy, chief operating officer, digital and allied business, Hungama, has told AlooTechie.

According to Roy, download of South Asian content comprise around 32 per cent of the total downloads done on iTunes and Bollywood content forms an integral part of the downloads. “In future, we hope that iTunes will have Bollywood as a separate genre in its store. Presently, Bollywood music appears under India which is featured in the world list,” Roy has said.

“This is yet another example of Indian content transcending boundaries and making a significant mark in the digital music space worldwide,” Neeraj Roy, MD and CEO, Hungama, has said in a company release. “While single song downloads are common, an entire album being downloaded on digital download services is rare and this showcases the great music that’s been composed for the film.”

iTunes is available in 22 countries around the world, including US, UK and European Union. The iTunes Store has a catalogue of over 10 million songs, over 30,000 TV episodes and over 2,500 films including over 600 in high definition video.
