New Delhi-based 99Labels.com is a members-only online retail shop that allows users to buy fashion-wear, accessories and lifestyle products at prices discounted up to 70 per cent of original prices. The company is currently targeting women consumers but plans to introduce designer watches and accessories for men and also add some kids’ merchandise.

Launched in December 2009, 99Labels.com claims to have already sold products of Indian designer wear brands such as Ashish Soni, Satya Paul and Rocky S. According to Ishita Swarup, co-founder and CEO, 99Labels.com, the number of items sold varies from product to product. “The Satya Paul sarees did well for us as we had sold more than 70 per cent of the merchandise available. Again categories like handbags and accessories were not sold much,” Swarup has told AlooTechie.

According to Swarup, 99Labels.com is currently attracting between 500 and 1000 registered users on a daily basis. Swarup further said that though most of the buyers are coming from foreign countries; within India, metro cities like Mumbai and New Delhi have the maximum traffic on the site. Even Tier II cities like Shillong and Guwahati are also contributing to the traffic of the site.

99Labels has partnered with various national and international brands to sell their products to its members. Membership to 99Labels.com is by invitation only and the website offers payment options like cash on delivery, internet banking and credit card. Each sale lasts for about three to five days and the company claims to deliver the sold products worldwide within three days of the purchase.

Speaking about the concept, Ishita Swarup said, “The idea is already tried and well implemented in the west. So, before bringing the concept to India, we studied the Indian market and found that everyone who is online today has the capacity to purchase these brands. May be, due to inconvenience, they are not going to the stores, but if provided a discount, they might like to try out the options on the internet. Hence, we decided to provide an Indian feel to the business by providing Indian designer merchandise on a discount.”

99Labels.com is using search engine marketing and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote its services. According to 99Labels, its Facebook page has attracted more than 3,000 fans and has been instrumental in driving new users to the site. The company also plans to launch print advertisements soon.

Speaking about the competition, Ishita Swarup said that more players in the market actually make things easier as well as exciting. “At the end of the day, a better user interface, a better offering line and a better operations including payment and delivery will make the service keep ahead of others in the competition,” added Swarup.
