Earlier, a study by internet research firm comScore had revealed that the number of internet users in India stood at 35.8 million as of September 2009. The comScore study included internet users of 15 years and above and excluded searches from public computers such as internet cafes and access from mobile phones or PDAs.

The findings of these studies would suggest that 22.4 million people in India have uploaded photos online, 20.1 million have created their social networking profile, 12.7 million have uploaded videos online, and 11.9 million have their own blogs, while 8.4 million people in the country are active on micro-blogging sites.
