26% of Twitter users in US use it to find news and stay updated: Study

According to a study by TNS and The Conference Board, 41.6 per cent of internet users in US who used Twitter did so to keep in touch with their friends. In addition, 29.1 per cent of the Twitter users used it to update their status, 25.8 per cent to find news and stay updated, 21.7 per cent for work purposes and 9.4 per cent for research.

The study also found that men and women both used Twitter primarily to keep in touch with friends. Secondarily, men were interested in finding news and women in updating their status. Also, users under age 35 were more interested in broadcasting their status than their senior counterparts who were more likely to use the service for work-related purposes. [Source: eMarketer]
