Thapar University, Patiala (formerly known as Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology) has partnered with talent lifecycle management company 24×7 Learning to offer B Tech courses through e-learning mode. According to 24×7 Learning, the online engineering courses will be offered through its continuing education initiative Avagmah.

Karthik K S, CEO, 24×7 Learning, has said, “On an average 2,65,000 students graduate with a technical diploma every year. These youngsters go on to seek employment as technical workforce in industries across India. Many of them work as sole breadwinners for their families, so further education is an impossible dream. They simply cannot afford to take time off for 3-4 years to get an engineering degree.”

“The lack of a further degree stymies their career prospects and hampers their growth in the organization. Through Avagmah, these diploma holders can now complete their B Tech from their homes or office, without having to leave their jobs. With this initiative, we are proud to usher in growth, and enhance the career prospects for this stratum of young workforce in the country,” Karthik has added.

Aimed at working diploma professionals, the 3-year online degree programme is available in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Computer Science. Polytechnic diploma holders in relevant area of engineering or equivalent, or B Sc (CS/IT), BCA or equivalent for B Tech CS&E program with minimum two years of work experience can now avail of this course after clearing the admission (entrance) test conducted by Thapar University.

According to 24×7 Learning, the entire program will have around 300 hours of online classroom sessions to facilitate the learning process. Practical sessions will be conducted with the support of local engineering colleges in major cities across India or at Thapar University, Patiala, Punjab. The last date of receipt of application form is March 12, 2009.
